Careers in Education

Central High School, West Campus

Placement Recommendations:
This class is open to all students at Central High School. Student must be in 11th or 12th grade and/or at least 16 years old.

Course Description:
This course is an introduction to careers in education for grades K-12. In addition to the fundamental curriculum components, students are required to observe and participate in a variety of settings and classrooms at the elementary, junior high, and high school levels. The CBEST test is a requirement for this course. The course also meets California Language Arts Content Standards.
 
Students will be required to conduct observations that will be structured and based on specific objectives. Students will observe and participate in classrooms throughout the year based on the content of the curriculum. Students will have the opportunity to explore careers in education through job shadowing, mentoring, observation, and internships. A minimum of 45 hours observation along with community classroom hours will be completed by each student and verified by a written log.

Class Advisors

All ROP teachers are required to maintain a list of advisors. These advisors are community members that work in fields related to their class, and help to advise them of current trends in the industry.
